Arrow and Zary

Arrow and Zary is an Isometric Mood driven adventure title developed for Epic’s annual Mega Jam using UE4 where I was responsible for Level and Systems design

Prototyping

Prior to Blockout we had to define the player verbs to inform our overall design. Once we established the kit of the Player Character I began prototyping in BSP to evaluate Pacing, Enemy Placement, Narrative Volume Triggers, and total game length keeping my design pillars in mind

Health Systems

Player HP was a point of contention for this Jam. Early on the focus was to develop a mood heavy game that did little to detract the player from the narrative while providing enough engagement to keep them playing and enjoying moment to moment combat; so we opted for a quick respawn via balloon if you fall over the ledge.

A small run through of some of the System and Level components for our Unreal Engine EMJ project.

Work done for the GameJam

  • Level Blockout and Collision placement

  • Character Locomotion and AI Navigation

  • Audio and State Trigger placement

  • Level Scripting
